Perfect places for camping in Norway!

Norway is a land of fjords, mountains, endless forests and wild, raw nature. But it is also an ideal place for all travelers who love camping or wild camping. And here’s our guide, to places we recommend, will be perfect for a camper trip, but also a backpack expedition 😉 In this part we will present you places located in the western and southern part.

Southern Norway

Oslo and its surroundings – an urban camp as a starting point.

The trip around Norway is worth starting from the vicinity of the capital, where the available infrastructure will allow for a peaceful entry into the rhythm of Scandinavian adventure.

Bogstad Camping

Just a 15-minute drive from downtown Oslo, Bogstad Camping is located. This comfortable campsite offers excellent infrastructure for motorhomes: electrical connections, sewage disposal stations and modern bathrooms. It is an ideal base for exploring the capital city and getting to know this country before setting out into the wilder regions.

While at this campsite, we can organize one-day trips with a backpack to the nearby Nordmark National Park. Beautiful forest trails lead to hidden lakes, where – using Allemannsretten – we can arrange wild camping, and the next day return to our motorhome.

A great place for wild camping can be found at Bjørnsjøen Lake, about 8 km from the campsite on foot.

Ryfylke Landscape Route – camper along the fjords

Leaving Oslo, we head west to see one of the most beautiful scenic routes in Norway. The Ryfylke Landscape Route leads through unique views of fjords, where a motorhome will be perfect as a mobile base.

Preikestolen Camping

Situated at the foot of the famous “Ambona rock” Preikestolen campsite, it offers excellent conditions for motorhomes and direct access to one of Norway’s most famous trekking routes.

From here you can take your backpack to the famous Preikestolen (about 4-hour round trip). For more experienced hikers, we recommend a two-day route from Preikestolen to Kjerag, with accommodation in a wild campsite overlooking Lysefjord.

Western Fjords – the heart of Norwegian nature

Atlantic route – camper travel through sea wonders

The Atlanterhavsveien (Atlantic Route) is a paradise for campers, offering numerous parking spaces with unique views.

Hustadvika Camping

Another campsite located on the Atlantic Road offers comfortable camper spots with direct views of the Norwegian Sea. From here we can go for backpacked hikes to nearby islands using the network of ferries and bridges. The most wild campers can be found on the island of Averøy, where the cliff coast offers unforgettable views of the sunset over the Atlantic.

While in this area, it is worth going on a two-day trip to the Hustadvika Islands and spending the night in a tent on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and the next day return to our camping.

Geirangerfjord – UNESCO within reach

The Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO-listed site, is the quintessence of the Norwegian fjord landscape. “Seven Sisters” waterfalls and crystal clear water create an image as…

Geiranger Camping

Located at the entrance of the Geiranger Camping Fjord, it offers camper seats with direct views of one of Norway’s biggest attractions.

It is an excellent starting point for hiking along the lesser-known Geirangerfjord trails. While most tourists watch the fjord from the deck of the ship, you can take a backpack to the route Skageflå – the former mountain farm only available on foot. Wild camping with a view of the fjord will be an experience that you will never forget!!!

In the next part we will present you places for camping and camping in central and northern Norway.
