March is the perfect time for a city break. It’s warm, cheap, and not crowded.

March is when spring starts in Europe, but most people aren’t even thinking about holidays yet. The weather is great for walking, prices are lower, and you won’t have to stand in huge queues for the famous sights. If you’re dreaming of a few days away, now is the time to pack your bags.

Why wait for summer? Fly now

Between February and March, travel agencies and airlines really compete for customers. This means hotels and flights can be 20–30% cheaper than in the summer. In Southern Europe, it’s usually around 18–22 degrees. It’s the perfect weather to spend all day exploring without sweating in the heat. You can also get a table at a nice restaurant much easier without booking weeks in advance.

Malta and Cyprus: Sun without the crowds

In Malta, it’s about 20 degrees in March. You can take a relaxed stroll through Valletta or enjoy the cliffs without pushing through crowds. A light jacket or a hoodie is all you need during the day. Cyprus is very similar – the island is green and peaceful right now. It’s a great spot to catch some sun before the real season starts.

Just remember to check the latest travel advice or airport updates before you go, just to make sure everything is calm in the region.

Turkey: Luxury for less

In March, hotels in Turkey can cost half of what they do in July. You can stay in a great place with a pool and a spa for a really good price. Istanbul or Antalya at 20 degrees are much more pleasant than in the 35-degree summer heat. Plus, you can visit a Turkish bath or a local market without any rush.

Italy, Spain, and Greece: Milan, Athens, Malaga

Milan, Pisa, or Athens are very welcoming in March, with plenty of sun and no tourist crowds. Seeing the Acropolis without thousands of people around is a completely different experience. Malaga, on the other hand, gives you a great mix of city life and sea views. You can find short trips like these for just a few hundred pounds/euros per person.

Something different? Lisbon, London, or Bucharest

Lisbon is beautiful this time of year, and the hotel prices won’t break the bank. London might seem expensive, but flights are often very cheap right now, and many of the best museums are free. If you want something affordable and close by, check out Bucharest. It has lots of cool cafes, interesting architecture, and you’ll spend much less there than in other capitals.

So, pick your favorite city, grab a ticket, and enjoy spring in Europe!
