Ryanair is abolishing paper boarding passes.

One of the most popular airlines, Ryanair, is saying goodbye to paper boarding passes. From November, the carrier switches only to digital versions available in the mobile application. This big change can particularly hit older travelers who prefer paper tickets.

Since when did the paper boarding passes end?

From November 12, 2025, passengers will no longer be able to download or print out the boarding pass from the carrier’s information. From 12 November, we will only use the myRyanair application. It is here that a digital boarding ticket will be generated during check-in. According to the airline, this change will bring passengers a “faster, more modern and greener travel experience”. Ryanair’s marketing director, meanwhile, explains that the decision is intended to streamline the service and adapt it to the standards of other industries – such as concerts or festivals, where digital tickets are already a standard.

A wave of criticism against the changes

Ryanair stresses that almost 80% of its more than 200 million customers already use mobile applications and boarding passes. Despite this, the announcement of the changes sparked strong opposition, especially from organizations representing seniors. The airlines were accused of being driven solely by cost cutting, without looking at the consequences. It is also worth thinking about what about passengers who do not have an application and will appear at the airport with a paper card? According to many experts, there should be another alternative for people who do not use the Internet or smartphones. But Ryanair has taken such situations into account and ensures that passengers do not have to worry. In exceptional cases, it will be possible to collect the boarding pass at the check-in counter.

Most customers ready to change

Despite considerable criticism, Ryanair remains committed to the introduction of mobile-only tickets. According to the line, such a solution is a step towards greater convenience, time saving and, importantly, environmental protection. With the app, passengers will not only have access to tickets, but also additional features such as seat selection, flight status tracking and change alerts.
